Okay, so fill us in. Is there anything good down there?

I think last time I was on the Strand, Colonel Bubbie's had some unopened beers from WWII. They should still be good.

There were a lot of bars but few with a decent selection. For a regular bar, O'Malley's on Post Office St in the strand area had the best selection but was mostly bottles. They had BMC and Shiner on tap. I had some Real Ale Phoenix there. No real big beers but some good IPAs. They were light on stouts too. On Strand St, you can walk around with beer bottle in hand. The place to go there was Strand Emporium. It was just a beer and wine shop. They had some pretty good stuff there. We didn't spend as much time on seawall so I don't know if there was anything on the water that had a decent selection although I heard on another forum that The Spot was okay if you can handle a biker crowd. There was a Molly's across the street from O'Malley's on Post Office and while it was a nice looking bar the selection wasn't great. They were a mostly draft bar but just had the basics with Real Ale pale and brown, Sierra Nevada pale, and the common Saint Arnold beers being the best available. Oh, I was surprised by the beer selection at this gumbo restaurant on Post Office too. We never did eat the gumbo there but it looked good.

We had a great time though. There was a car show on harborside. We watched a blues artist named Ray Bonneville at the Accoustic Cafe. Took some beers with us that we poured into paper cups while we sat on the deck at Murdock's on the beach. Hung out in the heated pool a bit. Walked around and shopped on the Strand. And enjoyed getting to hang out without the kids for once. Oh, and this Sunday brunch at the hotel was legendary. Omelet station, prime rib, eggs benedict, boiled shrimp and crab claws, stacked desert table, mimosas. Had to nap by the pool before driving back home. A very nice weekend for the Millicans. We needed that.

I was trying to remember the name of the Emporium place. It's been there since I was a kid, but I haven't been there in many years. My dad liked to go there and build his own 6-pack. Nice to know it's still there. They used to sell sandwiches and deli stuff, way back when.

I bought my first 6-pack of Guinness Extra Stout in there when I turned 18. My folks must've raised me right.

I think that there will be a Colonel Bubbie's Pre-Pro Pils on the Rare Beer Tasting. Yum..........
